Nikon D700 and 24-70 2.8 lens

datePosted on 14:28, October 29th, 2008 by QT

For our trip to Japan, this was an awesome combo. Though a bit heavy to lug around all day, a good night’s sleep would fix that. The D700 was so responsive and, once set up properly, very quick and easy to change to the setting that you needed for each situation. The grip was very well-designed.

Some people don’t like the fact that this body has a built-in flash. But I love it. It is especially useful for fill-in flash to light up shadows.

Worth it in every way!

Canon G6 still excellent after 4 years

datePosted on 14:25, October 29th, 2008 by QT

We bought this in 2004 for our Europe trip. This was our first digital camera. It was at the time Canon’s top of the line point and shoot, priced around $700.

Now it’s 2008 and we took it to Japan. This camera was now used for fun snapshots. It’s compact and unobtrusive so we could carry it into stores and restaurants. I set up the Program mode to use ASA 400 so that flash would not be needed when taking pictures of food dishes, store displays, and also of strangers in non-optimum light conditions.

A testimony to its excellent build: when out shopping in japan, I accidentally dropped it onto the asphalt pavement at a height of 2 feet. Ouch!!! It was dented in the corner of the USB connection. But after a check, the camera still functioned as if nothing happened. Great job Canon!
