San sa chun (산사춘), a brewed Korean rice wine (or sake) flavored with Korean hawthorn berries. Mild at only 14%, it is slightly sweet and full of flavors. When I tasted it for the first time, it reminded me of my grandma’s homemade rượu nếp, which is not the same as anything I could find on the street or in the markets even in Vietnam, though the flavors and aroma are different. Great when served chilled. According to the label, quoted: San Sa is the reddish and fragrant fruits of the rose spices. To be more accurate though, San Sa is the Korean hawthorn whose berries are used to flavor this wine. Just search for Korea Hawthorn to find its descriptions and photos. We got this bottle from our sister. |
